Random Acts of Art
Few things along Alcatraz Ave. make me stop, U-turn and dash out of the car with my camera. This, however. Wow. A bit of guerrilla art with a tree stump. Another reason why I hella heart Oakland!
Up close, pencil marks and the trail of a handsaw reveal the care and thought put into something so seemingly random. Does anyone know the artist?

How remarkable. I wonder if they did this on a whim (as the tree was being cut down anyway)? Or if they have a larger plan? I see there's bare dirt around this 'art' piece. I wonder if they plant to plant around it and preserve it, or if it was just for fun. Maybe next time you drive by, you'll sneak another peek?
ReplyDeleteI did sneak a peek last time and my guess is that the artist intended to alter the stump only and not the area around it. He didn't live in the house it was in front of, word on the street being that the man that lives there wasn't too happy about the project in the first place. But I'm so glad I got to see it, whatever its fate will be!
