Light Up the Night

If you manage the temerity to dash outside this evening, I would highly recommend plugging in a set of non-LED Christmas lights to tuck around the tender plants.  Not only will it protect them from our incoming snow (?!?), but it will also be a nice sparkly alternative to that old Strawberry Shortcake comforter.  Perhaps a quick check to remove dry, flammable material would be a good idea, too.  I can't imagine anything out there still being dry, but what's a suggestion without a disclaimer?  Bundle up and enjoy paging through all the plant catalogs coming through the mail!

  1. Just got through covering all of our blooming fruit trees in frost blankets, and mulching our native seedlings with a light layer of straw. I'm actually excited about the prospect of snow in Bay Area, although I did have other things I should have been doing today. The neighbors will think we're crazy though...it looks like we now have giant white popsicles in the orchard! Holiday lights would have looked so MUCH better ;)

  2. Well, when the word "orchard" is involved, more desperate measures than Christmas lights have to be employed! Straw's a good idea, too. Must make everything look a little more fresh. Glad your hatches are battened!

  5. I'm kinda excited about the snow, but my potted plants and my shared veggie garden are all resistant to heavy frost (I think). It looks like Friday night will be colder than tonight. So keep your hatches battened.

  6. Did you get any snow Christine?

We didn't. A bit of ice in some of the standing water in our yard, but nothing white.
